Glossary / A # Ad fatigue What it means The point at which an audience has seen an ad often enough that it does less each time. Meta’s own guidance describes the pattern: if results begin to drop as frequency rises, the audience may be experiencing ad fatigue, and it may be wise to change the creative or the targeting. 1 Also called Creative fatigue, wear-out Applies to Any ad that runs to the same audience for a while Set by Read from the ad’s own results over time Abinash Senapati Founder, eonik Updated 26 Oct 2026 Checked against Meta on 26 Oct 2026 ## The signs - Frequency rising Impressions divided by reach, week by week. 1 - Results falling Against the ad’s own earlier weeks. - The opening holding fewer people Hook rate falling, for a video. - Nothing else changed Same offer, page, budget and audience. All four together point at fatigue. Results falling alone can have many causes, and only one of them is a tired ad. ## What it means in practice Fatigue is a change over time in one ad, so compare the ad with its own early weeks, never with another ad. Before calling it fatigue, check that the offer, the landing page, the budget and the audience stayed the same over those weeks. When it is fatigue, the answer is new creative, and usually a new version of what worked (a new opening, another person, another setting) rather than a blank page. Meta says frequency may average 1 to 2 per ad set or be much higher depending on budget, audience size and schedule, 1 so there is no number at which every ad tires. Watch the trend in your own ad. Plan the next version before the current ad tires. A set that always has its replacement in progress never has to rush one out in the week the results fall, and the replacement can keep the structure that worked. ## Common mistakes - Calling an ad tired because it does less than another one . Fatigue is a change in the same ad. - Replacing the ad when the offer or page is the problem . The new ad inherits the problem. ## Sources - Frequency , Meta Business Help Center .
