Learn / Every change # How to make every version of an ad without rebuilding it each time A campaign rarely needs one ad. It needs the same idea in every size, for every offer, market and product, and most of the time goes into making each of those by hand. Abinash Senapati Founder, eonik Updated 3 Nov 2026 4 min read Checked against Meta’s placement and creative pages, and the variable features of Photoshop, Figma and Canva on 3 Nov 2026 The short answer The time goes because each version is rebuilt by hand: the design file is opened again for every size, offer, language and product, then checked and sent for approval one by one. Make one master that holds the idea with its parts named, lay every size out from it, make each change once so it lands on every page, and check and approve the whole set together. - A campaign multiplies: sizes times offers times languages times products. - Most of the hours are in the rebuilding, not in the idea. - One master with named parts lets every version be laid out from it. - Check and approve the set together, not page by page. On this page Count what the campaign asks for See where the hours go Make one master with its parts named Lay every size out from it, and make each change once Check and approve the set together When a version should be its own ad Common mistakes Questions Sources Ask a team where its week went and the answer is rarely the idea. It is the versions: the square one, the tall one, the one with the other price, the one for the other market, and the round of approval each of them went through. Meta asks for a variety of creative so its delivery can match a message to a person, so the number of versions only grows. 4 The way out is not working faster on each one. It is making them from one source. What you need - The finished ad the campaign is built on. - The media plan: every placement and size it buys. - The list of versions: offers, markets, languages and products. ## Step 1 Count what the campaign asks for Start by writing down every version the campaign needs before anyone opens a file. The count is usually larger than the team expects, because versions multiply. Versions of In this campaign Pages so far Sizes in the media plan 6 6 Offers (full price, 20% off) 2 6 × 2 = 12 Languages 2 12 × 2 = 24 Products 3 24 × 3 = 72 Example. A made-up campaign, to show how versions multiply: 6 sizes × 2 offers × 2 languages × 3 products is 72 pages. Meta’s placements alone span feeds, Stories, Reels, search and apps, each with its own shape. 5 Seventy-two pages made one at a time is a fortnight of work; made from one master, it is an afternoon of checking. ## Step 2 See where the hours go Time one version from start to finish and split it into steps. The split shows the work that repeats on every page, which is the work worth taking away. Step Done once per Repeats on every page? The idea and the master Campaign No Laying out a new size Page Yes Changing a price or a line Page Yes Checking logo, legal line and brand Page Yes Sending for approval and back Page Yes Naming and exporting Page Yes What repeats when each version is built by hand. Only the first row is the work your team is good at. The other five are what a master and a tool can do once for the whole set. ## Step 3 Make one master with its parts named A master is the ad every version is made from. It works when its parts are named, so a tool can find each one on every page: the logo, the headline, the product, the price, the legal line and the button. A layer called “Group 14” cannot be changed on every page at once; a layer called “price” can. - Name every part Logo, headline, product, price, legal line, call to action. - Keep text as text A price inside a picture cannot change by itself. - Mark what changes The parts that differ between versions: price, offer, language, product. - Leave room Space for the longest line any version will carry. Several tools can hold a master’s changing parts. Photoshop’s variables and data sets swap text in from a file; 1 Figma’s component text properties mark which words can change; 3 Canva’s Bulk Create fills one design from rows of data. 2 Each fills one layout. Every size still needs laying out on its own. ## Step 4 Lay every size out from it, and make each change once Lay each size out from the master rather than cropping it, so the named parts are placed again for each shape. Then make each change once: the new price, the second language, the other product, each set in one place and carried to every page. Change By hand From the master A new size Rebuilt in a new file Laid out around the named parts A new price Edited on each page Edited once, on every page Another language Every page retyped The words swapped, each page checked Another product Every page rebuilt The product swapped, the layout kept The same versions, made by hand and from a master. The guides for each change go further: one line on every size , another language , another product , and every placement . ## Step 5 Check and approve the set together A set made from one master is checked as a set. Look across every page at once for the things that go wrong between versions: a line that no longer fits, an old price left on one size, a legal line that belongs to one offer and not the other. - Every page carries the right offer The price and its legal line match. - Nothing is cut off The longest language fits every size. - The brand holds Logo, colours and fonts the same on every page. - One approval for the set Sent together, approved together. What to check before an ad goes out and getting a set approved cover both steps in full. ## When a version should be its own ad A master is right when the idea stays the same and only its parts change. Some versions change the idea, and forcing them through the master gives an ad that fits every size and convinces nobody. Make those as new ads, then give each its own master for its sizes and changes. The version From the master? Why A new size or placement Yes Same idea, new shape A new price or offer Yes Same idea, new words A new language Yes, with a read-through Same idea, but a native speaker checks the lines A product with a different reason to buy it No A different promise needs its own opening A market that buys for other reasons No The idea itself has to change Which versions a master can make, and which need a new ad. The test is simple: if you would brief the version differently, it is a new ad. If you would only tell someone what to swap, it is a version of the master. ## Common mistakes - Starting a new file for each version instead of a master . - Leaving the price or the offer inside a picture, where it cannot change by itself . - Sending each version for approval on its own . - Cropping the master into a new size instead of laying it out . Doing this in eonik Open your master in eonik on your Mac (a Photoshop or Illustrator file, or one made in eonik), lay it out in every size the plan buys, make each change once on every page, and check the set against your brand before it goes for approval. Count them before the work starts; the total is what the master has to make. ### Why does my team spend so much time making new versions of the same ad for different campaigns? Because each version is usually rebuilt by hand: the file is opened again for every size, offer, language and product, then checked and sent for approval one at a time. The idea is made once; the rebuilding repeats on every page. One master with its parts named, laid out in every size and changed once for every page, takes the repeating work away. ## Sources - Create data-driven graphics in Photoshop , Adobe Help (Internet Archive copy of 10 September 2026; Adobe refuses automated reads) .
