What is the difference between sGTM and client-side tagging?

Client-side tags run in the browser. Server-side tagging runs tags in a server container you control. Google documents this in Tag Manager server-side docs. sGTM can improve durability and page performance; It is not a published speed or ROAS lift; eonik is not a tagging product; When measurement is in place, make the next cut.

Two places tags can run

Client tags are simpler and fragile under ITP, blockers, and page bloat. sGTM moves selected hits through your server. Google’s server-side tagging guide is the source, not a vendor case study.

Do not invent a 2026 sGTM-versus-client speed benchmark. Measure your own LCP and hit loss.

What sGTM actually costs you

A server container needs engineering, monitoring, and a clear event map. It is not a one-click pixel replacement.

Pair it with Meta CAPI if you need durable Meta events. That is still not creative work.

Tracking is not the ad

Tracking hygiene and creative velocity are different workstreams. eonik does not host sGTM.

Download the Mac app when the bottleneck is ads, not tags. You approve every cut. You still own the container.

Client tags vs sGTM

Client-sidesGTM
Where it runsBrowserServer container you control
Typical winSimple to shipDurability and less page bloat
Typical breakITP, blockers, tag soupOps cost and incomplete event maps

Stay client-side when

  • Volume is low and engineering time is scarce
  • You still need basic pixel coverage first
  • You cannot operate a server container yet

Invest in sGTM when

  • Browser hit loss is a real problem you measured
  • You have engineering to maintain the container
  • Page performance actually suffers from tag soup

What usually breaks

  • Claiming a published sGTM speed or ROAS lift without measuring yours.
  • Moving tags server-side with no event map or monitoring.
  • Using tagging work as an excuse to pause new creative.

eonik is not an attribution, tagging, or budget suite. After you understand the readout, the lever you still control is what you make next. Start at how to generate AI ads. You approve every cut; nothing spends.

“Almost any question can be answered, cheaply, quickly, and finally, by a test campaign. And that’s the way to answer them, not by arguments around a table.”

Claude C. HopkinsScientific Advertising (1923)Scientific Advertising, Test campaigns

That principle still holds. The next on-brand cut is yours to approve.

Questions

Does sGTM replace the Meta pixel?+−

It can forward events more durably through a server container you control. Read Google’s server-side tagging docs and Meta’s CAPI docs. It does not replace making ads. Pixel, CAPI, and sGTM are measurement layers; eonik is none of them; You still implement tags in your stack.

Will sGTM raise ROAS by itself?+−

Do not claim a lift percentage. sGTM can improve data quality and sometimes page performance. Creative still has to earn attention. There is no official 2026 sGTM-versus-client ROAS table here; Measure hit loss and LCP yourself; Then decide whether engineering time belongs on tags or on the next cut.

Does eonik host server-side tagging?+−

No. eonik is not a tagging product. After measurement is in place, the lever you still control is what you make next. Consider the opening, assemble the on-brand file on Mac, and approve it; Start at how to generate AI ads, then download; Spend stays in Ads Manager.
