How to make one ad for another product

An ad that works for one product, made again for the next one in the range. What carries over, what has to change, and what gets checked again.

Abinash SenapatiFounder, eonikUpdated 26 Oct 20264 min readChecked against Meta and the FTC on 26 Oct 2026

The short answerKeep the ad’s structure (its layout, its order of shots, its tone) and change everything that belongs to the product: the photos, the name, the claims, the price and the legal line. Use real pictures of the new product, rewrite every claim so it is true for this product, lay each size out again for the new product’s shape, and send it for approval as a new ad, because that is what it is.

  • Structure carries over; facts do not. Every claim in the old ad has to be checked again for the new product.
  • The product an ad shows must match the product on its landing page.1
  • A tall bottle and a wide shoe do not sit in the same photo area: the layout changes with the product’s shape.
  • Meta labels ads made or significantly edited with generative AI with “AI info”, including some made with outside tools.4

When an ad works, the next request is usually “the same, for the other one”: the other flavour, the other colour, the next product in the range. It is quicker than starting from a blank page, and it carries a risk the original did not: a claim that was true for the first product, copied onto the second, where it is not.

What you need
  • The ad that works, with its layers or its project file.
  • Real photos of the new product, ideally from the angle the original used.
  • The new product’s claims, price and legal line, approved for that product.

Step 1Split the ad into what stays and what changes

Go through the ad part by part and mark each one. The parts that make it work as an ad usually stay. The parts that describe the product always change.

PartUsuallyWhy
Layout and order of shotsStaysIt is the structure that worked
Tone, type, colours of the brandStaysIt is the same brand
Product photosChangesThey show a different product
Product name and headlineChangesThey name the product
Claims and proof pointsChangesThey must be true of this product
Price, offer, legal lineChangesThey belong to this product’s offer

A starting split. Your brand’s rules decide the edge cases.

Write the split down before you start, and keep it beside the new set while you work. It becomes two lists: the parts you are allowed to copy as they are, and the parts you have to write again from the new product’s own facts. The second list is the one the approver will read most closely, so it is worth handing it to them with the set.

Step 2Get the new product right first

Start with the pictures, because the rest of the layout depends on them. Use real photos of the new product, shot or cut out from the same angle as the original where you can. If the new product is placed into a generated scene, the product itself should still be the real one, from your own photos, so the ad shows what the customer will receive.

If any part of the ad is made or significantly edited with generative AI, expect the platform to say so: Meta applies an “AI info” label to ads made or significantly edited with its own generative tools, and says it detects ads made with outside AI tools through industry-standard signals and labels those too.4

Step 3Rewrite every claim for the new product

Read every line of the old ad and ask whether it is true of the new product. A benefit, an ingredient, a number, a comparison, an award: each one was approved for the first product. Meta’s Advertising Standards prohibit ads that use deceptive or misleading practices, and require the products in an ad to match those on its landing page.1

The legal line changes with the claims. The FTC’s guidance on digital ads asks for a needed disclosure to sit close to the claim it qualifies.2 A new claim may need a new disclosure; an old disclosure may no longer apply. Rewrite the legal line from the new product’s claims, not from the old ad.

Step 4Lay each size out again for the new product’s shape

Products have shapes, and a layout is built around one. A wide shoe fills a leaderboard banner’s photo area; a tall bottle in the same area is tiny. Before you place the new photo into the old layout, look at its shape and decide where it needs more room.

The new product isWhat usually changes
Taller than the old oneThe photo area grows in height; the headline may move beside it on wide sizes
Wider than the old oneThe photo area grows in width; on tall sizes the product can be shown smaller
A different colourText over the photo may lose contrast and need a flat panel
Several items in a setThe photo area needs room for the group, not one item

How a product’s shape usually moves a layout. Check each size of the set.

Then check each size for the old product’s ghosts: a shadow shaped like the old product, a colour picked to match it, a line that refers to it. They are easy to miss because they looked right before.

Step 5Approve it as a new ad

Send the new product’s set for approval as a new ad, not as an edit of the old one. The approver has to read every claim fresh. On Meta, a new ad goes through the ad review system before it runs, and review is typically completed within 24 hours.3

Common mistakes

  • Copying a claim that was only true of the first product. It reads fine and it is wrong.
  • Recolouring the old product instead of using the new one.The customer receives something that does not look like the ad.
  • Dropping the new photo into the old layout unchanged. The product’s shape no longer fits the room it was given.
  • Sending it as an edit. The approver checks what changed, and misses the claim that did not.

Questions

Can the same headline be used for the new product?

If it says nothing that is only true of the first product. A headline about the brand or the moment can carry over; one about an ingredient, a feature or a result has to be checked against the new product’s approved claims.

Does a remake for another product need the full approval again?

Yes. It is a new ad with new facts in it. The structure was approved once; the claims, price and legal line are being approved for the first time.

Will the platform know the ad was made with AI?

Meta says it applies an “AI info” label to ads made or significantly edited with its own generative tools, and labels ads it detects were made with outside AI tools through industry-standard signals.4
