How to make more video ads without hiring more editors

A team asked for more video ads usually hears “we need another editor”. Most of the extra volume is already in the footage and the ads you have, and an editor’s hours are better spent on the new ideas.

Abinash SenapatiFounder, eonikUpdated 3 Nov 20264 min readChecked against Meta’s Reels specs, its AI label and creative pages, and the reframing tools in Premiere Pro and CapCut on 3 Nov 2026

The short answerGet more from what you already have before you shoot or hire: cut new openings, lengths and sizes from footage you own, remake the ads that already work with another product or person, ask creators for raw footage you can cut many ways, and generate scenes around your real product photos. Keep your editors on the new ideas, and let the versions come from those four sources.

  • Most extra volume is versions of footage you already own.
  • Remaking an ad that works is cheaper than inventing a new one.
  • Creator footage, filmed for the edit, becomes many ads.
  • Generated scenes carry your real product only when your photos do.

Meta asks advertisers for a variety of creative, so its delivery can match each message to the person seeing it.3 For a small team that sounds like a hiring plan. It rarely is. A video ad is a set of choices (how it opens, how long it runs, what shape it is, who is in it), and each choice can be changed without a new shoot. The four sources below are in the order that costs least.

SourceWhat it needsHow soon it gives a new ad
Footage you haveAn editor’s choice of the new cutThe same day
An ad that worksThe reference, your product and your peopleA day or two
Creator footageA creator, a brief and a licenceWhen the footage arrives
Generated scenesClean photos of your product, and a check of every frameThe same day, after the check

The four sources, compared by what each one asks of the team.

Plan a month by working down the table: the versions of last month’s footage first, then one remake, then the creator brief, and generation for the shots nobody can film. The editor’s week goes to the idea at the top of the list, not the versions under it.

What you need
  • Your existing footage and the video ads already running.
  • The placements your media plan buys, and their shapes.
  • Clean photos of the product from every side an ad will show.

Step 1Cut new versions from footage you already have

The cheapest new ad is a new cut of a video you already own. One shoot holds more openings, lengths and shapes than any single edit uses.

ChangeFrom one existing videoNeeds a shoot?
A new openingStart on a different line or shotNo
A shorter cutThe same story, fewer shotsNo
A new shapeFeed 4:5, Stories and Reels 9:16, laid out againNo
Captions in another languageThe same video, new words on screenNo

Versions one video can give without new footage.

Reframing a video for a new shape can be done by hand or with a tool: Premiere Pro’s Auto Reframe follows the action for a new aspect ratio,1 and CapCut’s reframe keeps the subject centred.2 Either way, check that captions and the button stay inside Meta’s bands on the tall shapes.5 How to resize a video ad covers each shape.

Step 2Remake the ads that already work

An ad your brand, or another brand, has kept running for weeks has an opening and a structure worth reusing. Remake it with another product, another person or another offer, and the idea is already proven by your own results or by an advertiser’s decision to keep paying for it.

KeepChange
The kind of openingThe words and the face
The order of shots and the paceEvery shot, with your product
The lengthThe offer and the call to action

What a remake keeps from the original, and what it makes new.

Step 3Ask creators for footage you can cut many ways

A creator’s video is the closest thing to more ads for free, if the brief asks for the right footage. Ask for raw, vertical footage with several different openings and the product close up, not one finished edit. One shoot then becomes a version per opening, each cut for every placement.

How to get every version of a UGC ad from one creator video has the brief and the cut in full.

Step 4Generate scenes around your real product

Generated video can fill the shots you do not have: a setting, a season, a hand holding the product. It shows your product only when your own photos carry it. Left to describe the product in words, a generator invents one that looks almost right.

Use generation forKeep real
The scene around the productThe product itself, from your photos
A setting you cannot filmThe name, price and small print, as real type
A new season or occasionAny person’s face or voice

Where generated video helps, and what it should never invent.

Meta labels ads made or edited with generative AI with “AI info”, including ones made in other tools.4 How to get your real product into a generated ad covers the photos and the checks.

What your editors keep

None of this replaces an editor’s judgement. It takes away the part of the week that is the same task repeated: a new size, a new opening cut from the same take, a caption in another language. What is left is the work that needs a person: the new idea, the shoot worth doing, the cut that makes an ad feel like the brand.

WorkWho does it
A new idea and its first editYour editor
Every size and length of itA tool, checked by your editor
New openings from the same footageYour editor chooses, a tool lays them out
Captions, prices and languages on every versionA tool, checked before approval

How the week splits once versions come from one source.

Before anything goes out, every version still needs a look: the logo, the price, the legal line, and the right offer on the right page. What to check before an ad goes out is the list.

Common mistakes

  • Hiring for volume before cutting the footage you already have.
  • Asking creators for a finished edit instead of raw footage.
  • Letting a generator describe the product instead of your photos carrying it.
  • Cutting a long version first and trimming it for Stories.

Questions

Do I need a video editor to make video ads?

For the new ideas, an editor’s judgement helps. For the versions of an idea (sizes, openings, lengths, captions), a tool and a check before approval are enough.

How can I produce more social media video ads without hiring additional video editors?

Get more from what you already have before hiring: cut new openings, lengths and sizes from footage you own, remake the ads that already work, ask creators for raw footage you can cut many ways, and generate scenes around your real product photos. Editors then spend their hours on new ideas. eonik does the versions and every size on your Mac.
