Facebook ad sizes for 2026
The size, shape, safe zone and limits Meta publishes for each Facebook placement, read from Meta’s own Ads Guide, and how to make the set from one master.
The short answerMeta’s Ads Guide lists 1440 × 1800 (4:5) for Facebook Feed images and video, and 1440 × 2560 (9:16) for Facebook Stories and Reels, keeping 14% of the top, 35% of the bottom and 6% of each side clear on Stories.12 Marketplace, search results and the right column take 1:1 at least 1080 × 1080.5
- Feed is 4:5 at 1440 × 1800, for images and for video.19
- Stories and Reels are 9:16 at 1440 × 2560. Many charts still say 1080 × 1920; that is the same shape at a lower resolution.23
- On Stories, Meta asks you to keep about 14% of the top, 35% of the bottom and 6% of each side clear of text and logos.2
- Three shapes cover every Facebook placement: 4:5, 9:16 and 1:1. Make one master for each, not one per placement.
On this page
Facebook ads run in more places than most teams make sizes for: the Feed, Stories, Reels, Marketplace, search results, the right column on a computer and the breaks inside other people’s videos. Meta publishes a size and a shape for each, and they are not all the same, so a set made for the Feed alone gets cropped or letterboxed everywhere else.
Every value below was read from Meta’s own Ads Guide on 27 October 2026, one page per placement, and each row links to its page. Where Meta’s wording is unusual, the table keeps it.
- The list of placements your campaign runs on, from the media plan or Ads Manager.
- Your finished master, with its layers if you have them (the PSD or the project file).
- The brand’s rules: where the logo sits, the smallest the legal line may be.
Step 1Look up the image size for each placement
Start with the placements your campaign actually runs on. If you leave placements on automatic, Meta can show the ad in any of these, so make the shapes they need or the ad will be fitted for you.
| Placement | Shape | Size Meta lists (px) | Keep clear | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Facebook Feed1 | 4:5 | 1440 × 1800 | None given | JPG or PNG, up to 30 MB, at least 600 px wide |
| Facebook Stories2 | 9:16 | 1440 × 2560 | 14% top, 35% bottom, 6% each side | JPG or PNG, up to 30 MB, at least 500 px wide |
| Facebook Reels3 | 9:16 | 1440 × 2560 | Meta advises no text on the image | JPG or PNG, up to 30 MB, at least 600 × 600 px |
| Facebook video feeds4 | 1.91:1 to 4:5 | 1440 × 1440 (1:1), 1440 × 1800 (4:5) | None given | JPG or PNG, up to 30 MB, at least 600 px wide |
| Facebook Marketplace5 | 1:1 | at least 1080 × 1080 | None given | JPG or PNG, up to 30 MB |
| Facebook search results6 | 1.91:1 to 1:1 | at least 1080 × 1080 | None given | JPG or PNG, up to 30 MB, at least 600 × 600 px |
| Facebook right column7 | 1:1 | at least 1080 × 1080 | Meta advises no text on the image | JPG or PNG, at least 254 × 133 px |
| Facebook in-stream video8 | 1.91:1 to 1:1 | at least 1080 × 1080 | Meta advises no text on the image | JPG or PNG, up to 30 MB, at least 600 × 600 px |
Image ads, as Meta’s Ads Guide lists them for each placement, read on 27 October 2026. “Keep clear” is Meta’s own advice where it gives any.
Two placements come with a warning rather than a size: on Reels and in the right column, Meta recommends no text on the image at all, because the picture is shown small or under the platform’s own buttons.
Step 2Look up the video size for each placement
Video uses the same shapes as images on most placements, with two differences: in-stream video, which plays inside other videos, takes 16:9 or 1:1, and each placement has its own length limits.
| Placement | Shape | Size Meta lists (px) | Keep clear | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Facebook Feed9 | 4:5 | 1440 × 1800 | None given | MP4, MOV or GIF, 1 second to 241 minutes, up to 4 GB |
| Facebook Stories10 | 9:16 | 1440 × 2560 | 14% top, 35% bottom, 6% each side | MP4, MOV or GIF, 1 second to 3 minutes, up to 4 GB |
| Facebook Reels11 | 9:16 | 1440 × 2560 | None given | MP4, MOV or GIF, no maximum length, up to 4 GB |
| Facebook Marketplace12 | 1:1 | at least 1080 × 1080 | None given | MP4, MOV or GIF, 1 second to 241 minutes, up to 4 GB |
| Facebook search results13 | 1:1 | at least 1080 × 1080 | None given | MP4, MOV or GIF, 1 second to 241 minutes, up to 4 GB |
| Facebook right column14 | 1:1, or 4:5 on mobile only | 1440 × 1440 (1:1), 1440 × 1800 (4:5) | None given | MP4, MOV or GIF, 1 second to 241 minutes, up to 4 GB |
| Facebook in-stream video15 | 16:9 or 1:1 | at least 1080 × 1080 | None given | MP4, MOV or GIF, 5 to 15 seconds on desktop, 5 seconds to 10 minutes on mobile |
Video ads, as Meta’s Ads Guide lists them for each placement, read on 27 October 2026.
Meta also asks for H.264 video with square pixels, a fixed frame rate and stereo AAC sound at 128 kbps or more on these placements. Exporting once at those settings saves a rejection later.
Step 3Keep the tall sizes clear where Meta asks
On Stories, Meta’s profile picture covers the top of the ad and the call to action covers the bottom. Its advice is to keep about 14% of the top, 35% of the bottom and 6% of each side free of text, logos and other key parts. In pixels, at the two resolutions you will meet:
| Size | Keep clear at the top | At the bottom | Each side |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1440 × 2560 | 358 px | 896 px | 86 px |
| 1080 × 1920 | 269 px | 672 px | 65 px |
Worked out from Meta’s 14%, 35% and 6%, rounded to the nearest pixel.
Messenger Stories have their own numbers: about 14% (250 px) at the top and 20% (340 px) at the bottom for images, and 14% top and bottom for video.1617 If the same tall ad runs on Facebook and Messenger, keep to the larger bands and it is clear on both.
Step 4Make one master per shape, then lay out the rest
Group the placements by shape before you make anything. Every Facebook placement in the tables above falls into one of three shapes, so three layouts cover the set:
| Shape | Placements | Make it at |
|---|---|---|
| 4:5, portrait | Feed, video feeds14 | 1440 × 1800 |
| 9:16, tall | Stories, Reels, Messenger Stories23 | 1440 × 2560 |
| 1:1, square | Marketplace, search results, right column, in-stream56 | 1440 × 1440 |
The placements Meta lists for each shape. 1440 × 1440 is the square size Meta lists for video feeds; the other square placements ask for at least 1080 × 1080, so 1440 × 1440 serves them all.
Make the shape most of your placements share first, at the largest size you need, so nothing is scaled up. Then lay the other two out again around the same parts (the photo, logo, headline, price, button and legal line) rather than cropping: a crop from 4:5 to 9:16 keeps the middle and loses what sits at the top and bottom, which is usually the logo and the price.
Before the set goes out
Common mistakes
- Using the Feed file everywhere.Meta fits it into Stories and Reels for you, with bars or a crop you did not choose.
- Putting the legal line at the bottom of a Story. It sits inside the band the call to action covers.
- Making the tall size at 1080 × 1920 because an old chart said so, then scaling it up when a sharper file is asked for.
- Adding text to Reels images and the right column, where Meta advises none.
Open the master and choose Resize, pick the placements from your media plan, and eonik lays out each shape again around the same parts, then shows every size side by side for you to check before it makes them.
How to resize one ad into every placement →Questions
Is 1080 × 1920 still right for Facebook Stories?
It is the same 9:16 shape, and Meta’s pages for some placements, such as Messenger Stories video, still list it. For Facebook Stories and Reels, Meta now lists 1440 × 2560, so make tall masters at that size and they scale down cleanly.217
