TikTok ad sizes for 2026
The shapes, minimum sizes and limits TikTok lists for in-feed ads, what decides its safe zone, and how to make a TikTok version from a master made for another platform.
The short answerTikTok lists vertical 9:16 at 540 × 960 or larger as the recommended shape for in-feed ads, with square 1:1 (640 × 640 or larger) and horizontal 16:9 (960 × 540 or larger) also accepted, up to 10 minutes and 500 MB. Its safe zone is not one fixed band: it depends on the shape, the caption length and other formats on the ad.1
- Vertical 9:16 is the shape TikTok recommends for in-feed ads; square and horizontal are accepted.1
- TikTok gives minimums (540 × 960 for vertical), not one fixed size. Make tall masters larger and they scale down.1
- The safe zone depends on the shape and the caption length, so check it with TikTok’s own safe zone files for your ad.1
On this page
TikTok is a vertical, full-screen feed, and most of what makes an ad work there happens in the tall shape. TikTok’s help page lists three shapes for in-feed ads, recommends the tall one, and, unlike Meta, does not give a single size: it gives a minimum for each shape and limits on length, file size and bitrate.
The values below come from TikTok’s help page for auction in-feed ads, read on 27 October 2026 from the Internet Archive’s copy of 20 April 2026; the page says it was last updated in March 2026.
- The finished master, with its layers if you have them.
- The caption you will run, because its length changes what the screen covers.
- TikTok’s safe zone files, from its help page, for the shape you are making.
Step 1Look up the shape and minimum size
For in-feed ads that are not Spark Ads (ads you upload, rather than an existing post you promote), TikTok lists:
| Shape | Ratio | Minimum size (px) | Keep clear | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| In-feed, vertical (recommended)1 | 9:16 | 540 × 960 or larger | Depends on shape and caption length; TikTok offers safe zone files | .mp4, .mov, .mpeg, .3gp or .avi, up to 10 minutes, up to 500 MB, at least 516 kbps |
| In-feed, square1 | 1:1 | 640 × 640 or larger | None given | As above |
| In-feed, horizontal1 | 16:9 | 960 × 540 or larger | None given | As above |
TikTok’s auction in-feed specifications for non-Spark ads, from the Internet Archive’s copy of 20 April 2026 (page last updated March 2026).
Spark Ads, which promote a post already on TikTok, take the post as it is: TikTok lists .mp4 or .mov and no length restriction for them, and their caption comes from the post.1
Step 2Make the tall version above the minimum
A minimum is not a target. If the same tall ad also runs on Instagram Reels, where Meta lists 1440 × 2560,2 make the tall master at that size: it is the same 9:16 shape, it is well above TikTok’s minimum, and one file serves both.
| Tall size | Meets TikTok’s minimum | Also fits |
|---|---|---|
| 1440 × 2560 | Yes | Instagram and Facebook Stories and Reels |
| 1080 × 1920 | Yes | Instagram Feed and Explore video |
| 720 × 1280 | Yes | TikTok only, among these |
Each size checked against TikTok’s minimum of 540 × 960 for vertical, and against what Meta lists for its tall placements.
Keep the bitrate above TikTok’s minimum of 516 kbps when you export,1 and keep the file under 500 MB; a long, high-resolution export can pass the size and fail the file limit.
Step 3Check the safe zone for your caption
TikTok’s own text and buttons sit over parts of the ad. How much they cover depends on the shape, how long the caption is and any extra formats on the ad, which is why TikTok publishes downloadable safe zone files rather than one set of percentages.1
A tall master laid out for Meta’s Stories and Reels bands is a good starting point, because those keep a large bottom band clear. Check it against TikTok’s file anyway: what TikTok covers is not the same as what Meta covers.
One tall master for TikTok and Meta
Most sets that run on TikTok also run on Instagram and Facebook, and every tall placement on both shares the 9:16 shape. One tall master can serve all of them, if it is made at the largest size any of them asks for and laid out for the strictest covered areas:
| Placement | Shape | Size listed (px) | Keep clear |
|---|---|---|---|
| TikTok in-feed, vertical1 | 9:16 | 540 × 960 or larger | TikTok’s file for the shape and caption |
| Instagram Reels2 | 9:16 | 1440 × 2560 | 14% top, 35% bottom, 6% each side |
| Instagram Stories3 | 9:16 | 1440 × 2560 | 14% top, 35% bottom, 6% each side |
| Facebook Reels4 | 9:16 | 1440 × 2560 | None given for video |
| Facebook Stories5 | 9:16 | 1440 × 2560 | 14% top, 35% bottom, 6% each side |

Make the master at 1440 × 2560, keep Meta’s bands clear, then check it against TikTok’s safe zone file for the caption you will run. Where the two disagree, keep both clear: the ad then reads in full on every tall placement in the set.
Export it so TikTok accepts it
These are TikTok’s limits for in-feed ads you upload, on its help page.1 Export once with them and the same file works for every in-feed ad in the set.
When the ad also runs square or wide
If the campaign also runs the square or horizontal shape, make each from the master’s parts rather than placing the tall video in a square with bars around it. A square laid out again keeps the product, the words and the logo at a size someone can read; a tall video shrunk into a square makes everything small.
TikTok recommends the tall shape,1 so make it first and the others only when the media plan asks for them. Whatever you make, name each file by its shape and size, so whoever uploads it chooses the right one for each ad.
Common mistakes
- Making the tall version at exactly the minimum, then finding it soft next to the Reels version of the same ad.
- Using Meta’s safe zone percentages for TikTok without checking TikTok’s own file. The covered areas differ.
- Writing a long caption after the ad is laid out.The extra lines cover more of the bottom.
Open the master and choose Resize, pick the tall size alongside your other placements, and eonik lays the tall version out around the same parts, then shows every size side by side for you to check before it makes them.
How to resize one ad into every placement →Questions
What resolution should a TikTok ad be?
TikTok lists a minimum of 540 × 960 for vertical ads. Make it larger: a 1440 × 2560 or 1080 × 1920 tall master is the same shape, passes the minimum, and also serves Meta’s tall placements.12
How long can a TikTok in-feed ad be?
Up to 10 minutes for in-feed ads you upload, on TikTok’s help page, and no restriction for Spark Ads, which use an existing post.1
Is there one TikTok safe zone?
No. TikTok says the safe zone depends on the shape, the caption length and any additional formats, and offers files to download for checking each one.1
